About Us
Hippo Waterfront Lodge and camping is located in a peaceful and quiet setting on the banks of the Crocodile River only 10 km out of Nelspruit. We are less than 6km from the Mbombela Stadium. Affordable, clean, comfortable and fully equipped en-suite timber log chalets and rooms ensure a real rustic and African bush experience. Each self-catering chalet has a magnificent view of the river from its private verandah. Running water, rolling green lawns and lots of indigenous trees offers abundant bird life to this setting, completed by regular visits from the resident hippos.

Leopard Chalets
Sleeps 3
These timber chalets are built on stilts each have a double and single bed in each chalet with outdoor covered kitchen on the deck, en-suite bathroom. Braai facilities are also available.
Elephant Chalets
Sleeps 6
Our Elephant Chalets sleep six. Elephant 1 has two bedrooms. The first bedroom has a double bed, and the second room has four single beds, perfect for a larger family, an attached bathroom, with outdoor undercover kitchen, dining and entertainment area with braai facilities
Rhino Chalets
Sleeps 4
Our Rhino Chalets sleep four with two bedrooms. Some chalets have a main bedroom with a double bed and the second room has two single beds. Other chalets have two single beds in each bedroom, and attached bathroom, with outdoor undercover kitchen, dining and entertainment area. Braai facilities are also available.
Buffalo Backpackers
Sleeps 4
These are our backpacker type accommodation. Each chalet has 4 single beds with ensuite bathroom. And shared communal kitchen facilities between every second chalet…
Lion Caravan stands
We have five caravan stands, each with their own ablution facilities. Each stand has electricity points. There is access to the river for fresh water fishing and hippo viewing. Our restaurant and bar area, as well as conference facilities are also available.

Restaurant & Bar
Breakfast & Dinner is served on our deck overlooking the Crocodile River. A full bar is available, and the Hippo Restaurant can seat 50-60 people.
Fishing
Fishing on the banks of the Crocodile River sounds like a fantastic experience and it is! The Crocodile river is known for its diverse fish species, including baber (catfish), eel, carp, and yellowfish. Come and enjoy the tranquility and the thrill of fishing in such a scenic environment.
Nature Trails & Walks
Take a stroll through along the banks of the Crocodile River for some superb bird watching, and spot some hippos lounging in the river.
Guided Tours
On request we offer guided tours to the local attractions within the area. These destinations include God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck, Potholes, Sudwala Caves, and Botanical Gardens etc…even a trip to the Kruger National Park.

“We camped here for one night on our way to the Kruger. Arrived after 20:00 with no problems and received a warm welcome – the owner informed us of a hippo grazing on the river banks on our arrival. Wonderful seeing a hippo so clearly and the trees are beautiful! Clean private ablution and apart from the slightly challenging road leading here, it was an overall wonderful experience! Will definitely like to come again an hopefully enjoy the beautiful, clean swimming pool which we didn’t have time for this time.”
